This site-specific installation art project, created by Sunny Hsu and Anny Chen, was inspired by the Cing Shuei Military village, a historical site rich with evidence of past life. As we entered this unfamiliar space, we felt a sense of fragility and sought to treat it with care, as though it were a delicate object transported through time.
To protect the space and honor its previous inhabitants, we filled it with "充氣包 airbags," which we named "(__)" to reflect the shape of the fillers and the emptiness of the space. This created a direct relationship between the act of delivering a valuable object and the harsh emptiness of trying to fill a void. As we filled the space, we were reminded of the cold, lifeless fillers left behind when the previous occupants moved on. Our installation thus becomes a tribute to the space and the people who once called it home, as well as a reflection on the transience of human existence and how we seek to protect and preserve what remains.
